These cars were given the name 'Tunnel Car' as they are side bench saloon cars, originally without central partitions, which were fitted later. All 4 remaining cars (5, 6, 7 and 9) are all in regular service.

These 4 trams have been in almost constant use since entering traffic 114 years ago. The ruggedness of the type saw them in all year use (even in heavy snow). Because of their demand these trams have spent little time out of traffic in their lives, other than for overhaul. Car 22 was burnt out in the early 1990s however the body was rebuilt to the tram you see today.

1895 built 'Royal' saloon trailer. Given name after carrying Queen Victoria plus other Royals. Smallest trailer in the fleet. Active

1896 built 60 is a unique trailer and was ordered as a 'one off'. In Service.

Wagons and diesel shunters
34 MariaBuilt in 1996 as a replica for the SMR freight tram it was rebuilt as a per way diesel tram for the MER.
In recent years during relay work there have been several small diesel shunters operated on the MER
The MER has had its own fleet of freight wagons consisting of Vans and open wagons. A number of these remain on the line.
Various wagons used for maintenance along the line.
